Brisbane has a tradition of homestay/sharehouse accommodation for students, with many old Queenslanders sub divided for this market through the suburbs.
A reduction in infrastructure charges to new developers who build PBSA (Purpose Built Student Accommodation) has seen many new investors enter the market in 2016-2018 and new developments in the CBD and surrounding neighbourhoods taking the existing supply of 6000 beds in 2015 to 20,000+ in 2018.
Some new and existing PBSA are Student One, Iglu, Atira Student Living, UniLodge, Urbanest, Uniresort, Genesis1 and Scape. Property management companies such as Hive and Brisbane Students also provide accommodation in apartments and sharehouses.
On-campus accommodation owned and/or managed by your school or university may be a good and convenient option. Contact your school or university for more information.
Homestay networks where you can find and stay with a family in their home are Oz Homestay, Aussie Families Homestay Care, Homestay Network, Meridian Homestay Services, Global Experience, and the Australian Homestay Network.
